Monday night Orioles game thread: at Mariners, 10:10

After a split in Oakland that felt a little disappointing, the Orioles need to find a way to win the series against the Mariners, starting with the opener on Monday night.

Is Monday night’s game a must-win for the Orioles? There are still 44 games to play, so probably not exactly a must-win. But if the Orioles lose it, then they’re going to sink to three games below .500. Each loss is a game they can’t get back.

Getting to go up against Yovani Gallardo, the still-regrettable Orioles signing who fortunately was able to be traded for Seth Smith, is as close to a gimme as there is going to be. He hasn’t been good at all, much the same as he wasn’t good last year. They must destroy him. The end.

Pitching for the O’s is Kevin Gausman. He’s been much better since the All-Star break has come along. Maybe that will be a good sign for tonight. I don’t know. It’s going to be a late night back east here, and hopefully what happens in this game isn’t going to leave me feeling grumpy when I have to write about it.
