Monday night Orioles game thread: vs. Red Sox, 7:05

New, comments

The last Orioles homestand of the year begins tonight against the Red Sox. About all the O's have to play for is to spoil the AL East for Boston. That sounds fun.

MLB: New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The Orioles season has reached a point where the only thing left to do is root for them to be spoilers. Even that will only last for another few days. After this series against the Red Sox, there's no one left whose season they can spoil. So, hopefully the Orioles can rally for at least one more good series and make this count.

Unfortunately, rooting for the Red Sox to tumble from the top of the AL East also goes along with the Yankees winning the AL East. We all have our own different reasons for hating the Yankees more or the Red Sox more.

Some of you may hate the Yankees more right now, and that's OK, because screw those guys. But at this moment, I hate the Red Sox more, so I'm hoping for an Orioles sweep and the Red Sox losing their three game lead and widespread panic and drama in the Boston press that leads to another round of "Worst collapse ever!" and firings and vindictive leaks to the press and everything that comes along with that.

Anyway, this is the last homestand of the year, so if you want to stock up on some Orioles baseball for the winter, the next seven games are going to be your last chance to do that. The O's have a couple of neat giveaways the rest of the way, including knit caps on Tuesday and hoodies on Saturday. There are no giveaways tonight. No one can judge you for not being there.

The good news is that Dylan Bundy is pitching for the Orioles tonight. What's more, he's pitching on extra rest, having last pitched on September 12. That's tended to mean good things this season. Here's hoping that continues to be the case tonight.

Tonight's O's lineup includes Austin Hays, so that's reason enough to be excited. Hopefully he does some good things - and hopefully so do the rest of the Orioles so they can take Boston down a peg.
