It’s time for the Orioles to make their move, if they’re going to make a move anywhere in the right direction. It’s Labor Day, the season is getting towards the end, and they’re about to start a three game series against the Yankees, who are currently 3.5 games ahead of the O’s in the standings and in possession of the first wild card spot.
Several things could work in the Orioles favor in this series. They will not face either Luis Severino or Masahiro Tanaka. Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is going to be serving his brawling-related suspension during this series. And extra rest Dylan Bundy and second half Kevin Gausman will pitch in the series, with Bundy coming up first in the Labor Day afternoon contest.
The Yankees were saddled with a late Sunday night to play on ESPN against the Red Sox. Going from that to a city change to a 2:05 first pitch could be a small advantage for the O’s. Here’s hoping they can take advantage of it.
On the out of town scoreboard today, the Twins are in action in the 7 o’clock hour against the Rays. The O’s remain 1.5 games back of the Twins. Also, the Angels, who are tied with the O’s at 1.5 behind Minnesota, will be playing the Athletics in the 4 o’clock hour. The Orioles have to help themselves by winning in order to find out if they can gain ground.
