Happy Sunday, Camden Chatters! It’s the end of another weekend and the first one that has truly felt like fall.
There isn’t much going on in Birdland at the moment, or at least, nothing we know about. The Orioles are presumably trying to sign both a new GM and Victor Victor Mesa, but they’re being very tight lipped about the whole thing.
How about that playoff baseball? The NLCS has been exciting so far with the series split 1-1 as the teams head to Los Angeles to continue the series. The Astros took game one of the ALCS last night which is good for all you Red Sox haters in the house.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have four Orioles birthday buddies, although they’re not exactly household names:
- Tommy Harper played for six other teams, including six season with the Cincinnati Reds, before finishing his career with 46 games with the O’s, mostly as DH, in 1976. He turns 78 today.
- Kiko Garcia spent 1976-1980 with the Orioles as middle infielder. He turns 65 today and I feel like Camden Chatter duck has some kind of problem with him.
- Carl Nichols appeared in games with the Orioles in 1986-88 but never more than 18 games in any of those seasons. He was a backup catcher who dabbled in right field and was traded to the Astros for Dave Johnson (father of Steve). Today is his 56th birthday.
- Finally, today is the 47th birthday of Midre Cummings, who played for the 2005 Orioles. It’s ok if you don’t remember him. He appeared in only two games for the Orioles and had only two plate appearances. He went 0-for-2.
On this day in 1971, the Orioles lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the World Series, 2-0. The win gave the Pirates a 3-2 edge in the series.
In 2014 the Orioles lost to the Royals 2-0 to fall behind 3-0 in the ALCS. I hated that series.
We really need some better October 14th memories.
