Wednesday Bird Droppings: Where it’s Opening Day Eve

New, 911 comments

Are you reading for Opening Day? It’s so close!

MLB: New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

It’s hump day, Camden Chatters! But not just any hump day, it’s also the day before Opening Day. When you wake up tomorrow morning, there will be baseball that day. Even with a team that could end up as bad as the Orioles, that’s good news.

Maybe it’s just the start of baseball season that’s doing it, but I’m starting to think maybe our guys won’t even be that bad. Am I insane? There need to be a few breaks in the Orioles favor for things to work out, but it could happen. Right?

How many of you are heading to Baltimore for the festivities tomorrow? I’ll be there with Paul in our regular seats in section 334. And luckily the forecast has gotten better as the day gets closer. The National Weather Service says, “A chance of rain. Patchy fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%.”

Let’s get to the day-before-Opening-Day links:

Camden Chat Pre-Season Contest
It’s the last day for you to enter the contest and we’re up to 289 entries, our most ever! Can we get to 300? The contest will close at 5 p.m.

I fear it will be longer than I prefer, that’s for sure.

After finding slider, Orioles' Andrew Cashner confident in arsenal he brings into season - Baltimore Sun
I wasn't really that jazzed about the Andrew Cashner signing, but I sure am rooting for him now. I hope that slider works wonders.

Baltimore broadcast networks strike out with Orioles games | WTOP
Those of you without cable who love when a game is simulcast on WJZ, you're out of luck. MASN has pulled the plug on any over-the-air broadcasts, which really stinks and seems like a jerk move on the part of MASN.

Part three of Paul’s AL East rankings isn’t pretty. If you haven’t already, check out part 1 (infield) and part 2 (outfield).

Chick-Fil-A offers free sandwiches for opening day - ABC2News.com
Show up to Chick-Fil-A tomorrow in an orange or Orioles shirt, get a free sandwich. Should make a nice dinner for the way home from the game.

Orioles Offering Kid-Friendly Games, Food And More - CBS Baltimore
In addition to their new deal to allow kids under 10 in for free, the Orioles have added more in-park entertainment for them and will also have kid-sized items on the menu at the concession stands. I really hope their commitment to bringing in more kids and families lasts.

Orioles pledge $300,000 to local charities - MLB.com
The Orioles are bringing back their Birdland Heroes program this year, which I rather enjoy. It's nice when people are recognized for the good things they have done.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have three Orioles birthday buddies. It’s the 27th birthday of former Oriole Christian Walker, who is now in the D-Backs organization. Pitcher Shawn Boskie, who was on the 1997 team, turns 51. And Glenn Davis turns 57. In honor of his birthday I’ll just leave it at that.

On this day in 1999 the Orioles played the Cuban team in Cuba, defeating them 3-2 in 11 innings.
