Happy Wednesday, Camden Chatters! I hope you’re faring well in this wintry weather.
It may not look like it when you look out the window, but we are indeed in the same calendar month as Opening Day. In fact, we are just 22 days from Opening Day, which of course is the jersey number worn by Hall of Famer Jim Palmer. Palmer wore number 22 for from 1965-1984 and it is, of course, retired.
Down in Florida, the Orioles are set to take on the Rays this afternoon. The game won’t be broadcast on TV anywhere, but if you have Gameday Audio you can listen to the Rays’ broadcast online. Starting pitcher for the Orioles is Mike Wright Jr. Does it seem like he starts every game or is it just me?
No excuses - including financial - hold up in Orioles' decision not to aggressively pursue Jay - BaltimoreBaseball.com
Dan Connolly has some harsh words for the Orioles over their failure to sign Jon Jay.
Orioles' Tim Beckham carrying, seeking 'beautiful feeling' through first spring in Sarasota - Baltimore Sun
He's got a good attitude about being shoved to a new position, I'll give him that.
Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. talks youth baseball, MLB and career - York Daily Record
If you've been missing some bland Cal thoughts, this is your article. He does have nice things to say about Mike Mussina.
Top two 2008 draft picks suiting up for the O's this year - Call to the Pen
Tim Beckham and Pedro Alvarez were both drafted in the first round of the 2008 draft. I'm guessing things haven't really turned out the way they dreamed it would. You know who else was drafted in the first round of the 2008 draft? Ryan Flaherty.
What's Next For Trey Mancini? - Camden Depot
Trey Mancini was maybe the best thing about the 2017 season. Can he keep things going for 2018?
Orioles' Trey Mancini wants to prove rookie season no fluke - Yahoo! Sports
Trey says all the right things and Buck likes his guy.
Wrapping up a 9-8 loss - School of Roch
Hunter Harvey is healthy, which is the best news from this game. And I'm not even being sarcastic here, it's great that he's doing all. Also, Caleb Joseph is hitting .462 and you know that'll carry over.
Plenty at stake for Bryce Harper, Manny Machado class - USA Today
It's a weird time for free agency and the players (and their union) are hoping next year's big FA class will get things back where they want them (i.e. giant contracts).
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Your Orioles birthday buddy is Joe Carter. Known more for his postseason heroics as a Blue Jay, Carter spent part of 1998 with the Orioles at the end of his career.
While he wasn’t an Oriole, in 1953 Bobo Holloman played for the St. Louis Browns and it’s also his birthday. His name is awesome, so he also gets a mention.
On this day in 1999 the Orioles traveled to Cuba to play an exhibition game, the first MLB team to play in Cuba in 40 years.
