Syracuse vs Norfolk, postponed
The game that was supposed to take place in Syracuse between Baltimore and Washington’s Triple-A affiliates was postponed due to the constant rainy conditions on Sunday. From 8:00 a.m., there were showers throughout the area. Norfolk lost to Syracuse on Saturday, 6-1.
Harrisburg vs Bowie, postponed
A Double-A matchup between the Harrisburg Senators and Bowie Baysox was also postponed due to rain. Bowie won their game on Saturday, 15-6. The game will be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday, June 20 at 12:00 p.m., with the two clubs playing a pair of seven-inning contests.
Frederick Keys 6, Potomac 5
In the only game played by Baltimore’s minor league affiliates on Sunday, the Frederick Keys were victorious, defeating the Potomac Nationals 6-5. Jomar Reyes doubled down the right field line in the eighth inning, which scored two runs for Frederick. Reyes is now hitting .256/.289/.279, with six RBI in 43 at-bats during the 2018 season.
Not to be outdone, left-handed starter Brian Gonzalez threw six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out five batters. His quality start is now Frederick’s second of the season. He now has an 0-1 record, with a 2.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, with batters hitting .238 against him in 10.1 innings pitched this year.
Lakewood vs Delmarva, postponed
Philadelphia and Baltimore’s Low-A affiliates also had their game rained out. The game will be rescheduled at a later date. Delmarva lost to Lakewood on Saturday, 3-1.
Monday’s Scheduled Games
- Norfolk: at Lehigh Valley, 7:05. Starter: TBD
- Bowie: at Richmond, 6:35. Starter: Michael Kelly
- Frederick: at Lynchburg, 6:30. Starter: Ofelky Peralta
- Delmarva: at Hagerstown, 6:05. Starter: Zac Lowther
Right-handed starter David Hess was called up to Baltimore on Sunday to replace LHP Donnie Hart, who was optioned down to Triple-A Norfolk. If Baltimore needed him, he would’ve been used in long relief. It turns out that the Orioles wouldn’t have to use him. He didn’t pitch in Baltimore’s 3-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox in Sunday’s game.
As for the other Oriole affiliates, Kelly and Lowther will pitch on Monday, just as they were supposed to on Sunday. Peralta will take the ball for the Keys and he currently has a 0-0 record, with a 2.25 ERA in 4.0 innings pitched. He allowed three hits and one run (one earned) in his last start against the Carolina Mudcats.
