Wednesday afternoon Orioles game thread: at Tigers, 1:10

The Orioles have played 17 games and their offense is still really bad. Maybe that will change today, but probably not. Hopefully Kevin Gausman pitches better this afternoon against the Tigers.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The baseball season is not even three weeks old yet and already it's tiresome to talk about how bad the Orioles have been. There is really nothing original other than to say that most of the regular lineup has been bad. There are three players who are having good 2018s to date who are in the starting lineup today. That's it. It's hard to win games like that and sure enough, the Orioles aren't winning them.

Also playing for the O's today is starting pitcher Kevin Gausman, who is not unlike most of the hitters in that he has been not very good overall through his three starts. That's because he's managed to give up four home runs in 15 innings already, despite there being cold weather basically everywhere. It is impressive dedication to that craft, though I hope he does not continue that dedication today.

The Orioles have the worst offense in the American League by OPS, in part but not entirely because they are racking up strikeouts more than anyone else in the AL. They are facing a guy who had a 5+ ERA last season in Matthew Boyd, though Boyd has been good through two starts so far this year. If you can't watch this game because you're at work, you may be one of the lucky ones, but I hope you'll chat with us in the comments below anyway.
