Friday night Orioles game thread: vs. Indians, 7:05

The Orioles have been so bad that the only way to encompass their badness is to bring up the 2010 and 1988 Orioles. Here's hoping they can start to turn it around against the Indians on Friday night - but they probably won't.

Here we are, 20 games into the season, and the first real Orioles homestand is finally beginning. To say that the season up until now has not gone well is a bit of an understatement. Now, perhaps, we will begin to get a sense of whether the 2018 O's problem is that they stink inexplicably on the road, like last year's Orioles did, or whether they just stink completely explicably everywhere. I think I already know the answer, although I do not wish for it to be true.

If we are lucky, maybe the offense started to find some life against the Tigers and that will carry over as they return home to Baltimore starting tonight. The Orioles really need Chris Davis to start hitting, and Tim Beckham, and Adam Jones too. If you want to get greedy, they also need Anthony Santander to start hitting, as they are still three weeks or so away from when they can option him to the minors and replace him with like... I don't know, Austin Hays if we're lucky, Joey Rickard if we aren't.

The Orioles still lost those games in Detroit, of course, but sooner or later they will actually get run support for tonight's starter, Dylan Bundy. Knowing the Orioles luck, Bundy will turn in a clunker when the O's finally score some runs for him. Perhaps that, too, will unfold tonight. Trevor Bauer, the Cleveland starter, has been good through his first three starts. Maybe he is also due for a clunker.

It has not been a lot of fun to watch the games up until now. You don't need me to tell you this. They have been bad. At least tonight, there is a real pitcher, unlike tomorrow, when we will have to endure Chris Tillman.
