Norfolk Tides 5, Buffalo Bisons 2
The Norfolk Tides put together an all-around quality performance on Friday night against the Bisons. The Tides offense scattered a handful of runs over the course of the game, including one in the first, two in the second, one in the third and one in the fifth.
Tim Melville started for the Tides and got the win with six innings pitched, one run, five hits, three walks and three strikeouts. Josh Edgin got the hold with 1.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run yet this year. Jhan Marinez got the save, his second on the season.
Joey Rickard went 5-5 from the leadoff spot with one run scored. D.J. Stewart went 2-4 with a double, a run batted in and one run scored. Austin Wynns was 0-4 with two strikeouts.
Bowie Baysox 5, Akron Rubberducks 3
Bowie got some clutching hitting late in this game, scoring three runs in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie at the time and make it 5-2. Akron tacked on a run in the eighth, but it was too little too late.
Austin Hays had an interesting batting line on the night. He finished 0-1 with 3 walks, one strikeout and one run scored. Ademar Rifaela and Martin Cervenka each had a pair of hits.
Hunter Harvey started the game for the Baysox and went 2.1 innings, throwing 50 pitches and 30 strikes. He allowed two hits and two walks with one strikeout, lowering his ERA to 2.08 on the year.
Wilmington Blue Rocks 2, Frederick Keys 0
The Keys got shut out in a pitching duel on Friday night at Nymeo Field.
Cole Billingsley was one of the few bright spots for the Keys offense. He went 2-4 with a double and a walk. Randolph Gassaway and Jomar Reyes both went 0-4 with one strikeout each.
Lucas Humpal took the loss despite pitching well, with a final stat line of five innings, five hits, one run, two walks and six strikeouts.
Lakewood BlueClaws 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 2
The Shorebirds scored a couple of runs early on in the first inning, but the offense was shut out for the rest of the game. The Shorebirds hitters struck out 12 times against the BlueClaws.
Matthias Dietz had a poor start on the pitching side for the Shorebirds, allowing four runs over 3.1 innings with 3 hits, 3 strikeouts, and a whopping 7 walks.
On the offensive side, Mason McCoy went 1-4 with one strikeout. His average stands at .214 for the year. Ryan Ripken went 0-3 with a walk, lowering his average to .316. Left fielder Zach Jarrett went 1-4 with a home run and two strikeouts.
