Norfolk Tides 6, Buffalo (Blue Jays) 1
Outfielder DJ Stewart reached base safely four times in Norfolk’s win over Buffalo. He singled twice, walked twice, drove in two runs and scored two runs of his own. Stewart now slashes .292/.382/.375, while driving in seven runs and hitting one home run on the season. Garabez Rosa also homered in Sunday’s game.
Reliever Asher Wojciechowski won in relief, after taking the ball from starter David Hess. Wojciechowski allowed just one run on four hits in five innings pitched, striking out two batters.
Akron (Indians) 9, Bowie Baysox 4
Both teams collected 13 hits in this game, though the Rubber Ducks were able to make much more of theirs, bombing Baysox starter John Means for six runs in just 4.2 innings.
Three Baysox hitters had multi-hit games. Corban Joseph was 3-for-4 with two doubles, Cedric Mullins went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Audry Perez went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Maryland’s own Ryan Meisinger also tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts and two hits against him.
Frederick Keys 6, Wilmington (Royals) 2
Ofelky Peralta finished with his first quality start of the season. He pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk. This is the first game of the year in which Peralta did not walk multiple batters.
Preston Palmeiro also homered in the fourth, with Branden Kline delivering the save with 1.1 scoreless innings pitched. Leadoff man Ryan McKenna reached base four times, with two hits and two walks.
Lakewood (Phillies) 2, Delmarva Shorebirds 1
Zac Lowther struck out 11 batters in Sunday’s matchup, pitching five innings while allowing one run on just two hits. Despite his strong effort, he still received the loss with a Quincy Nieporte RBI in the fourth inning, putting Lakewood up 1-0. Lowther, the 2017 competitive balance pick, began the season with a 14.2-inning scoreless streak and has struck out 31 batters in 16 innings so far this season.
