Hello, Camden Chatters. We’re just about through one full week of baseball and things haven’t gone so well for our Orioles. They did break through for six runs last night, so I’m going to cling to the hope that the offense is finally starting to warm up. If you have the stomach for it, you can check out my game recap for the details.
The Orioles will try to avoid the sweep and their fifth consecutive loss this afternoon at 2 p.m. Dylan Bundy has been the only starter through the first week to look good, so let’s hope that continues. Dallas Keuchel is pitching for the Astros.
Alex Cobb could join Orioles on April 9 | Baltimore Orioles
I think it's safe to say they need him.
Inside-the-park flub just the beginning of rough night for Orioles left fielder Trey Mancini - Baltimore Sun
As I finished up my recap last night I realized I didn't get into Mancini's bad luck of a game. First he just missed catching a ball that ended up as an inside-the-park home run, then he was robbed of a home run himself, then Alex Bregmann made a Manny-like play at third base to steal another hit.
Baltimore Orioles Sign Michael Saunders to Minor-League Deal - Baseball Essential
Will this end up mattering? Probably not.
Will The Orioles Difficult April Schedule Ensure A Manny Machado Trade? - Baltimore Sports Report
I guess going into July only winning one out of every five will make it easier for them to trade Machado. That's a lot of bad baseball to have to go through, though. I'd rather they just beat these good teams.
Orioles' Hunter Harvey: Starts season with three-inning limit - CBSSports.com
The Orioles are trying to protect him based on his injury history, it seems.
Wrapping up the Orioles' 10-6 loss at Houston - Steve Melewski
As I suspected, Buck Showalter says he used the rule 5 guys because the other pitchers had already been used in previous games. Maybe don't let them pitch in games that are an obvious loss, like game one of this series, then.
The Greatest Baseball Movies - Camden Depot
Take a break from being annoyed at the Orioles to talk about some baseball movies. Me and Jon Shepherd don't really have the same taste in baseball movies.
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have a lot of Orioles birthday buddies. Eddie Watt pitched in relief for the Orioles from 1966-73 and turns 77 years old today. It’s also the birthdays of Odrisamer Despaigne, Jim Dedrick, Brad Komminsk, and Mike Epstein. Earlier this week, Despaigne pitched the 17th inning for the Marlins and picked up the win, then came back and started the next day.
On this day in 2001 the Orioles were on the losing end of Hideo Nomo’s no-hitter. In 2005, Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro became the first pair of teammates with 500 home runs. Probably not the first pair of teammates who both did steroids though. And on this day in 2011, the Orioles beat the Tigers to start the season 4-0.
