If you're just sitting down to the Orioles for the night right now, you may not yet know that Chris Tillman has been placed on the disabled list. This is addition by subtraction for the O's, sad as it is to say, but that's where Tillman is at right now. He can't pitch. Maybe he really has a lower back strain. Maybe he doesn't. Either way, he won't be ruining MLB games for at least a little while. That's something.
For tonight, hopefully Kevin Gausman continues a stretch of good starts so we don't spend much time thinking about Tillman at all. The Orioles could sure use their first three-game winning streak of the season in order to make this whole endeavor feel so much less depressing for everyone involved. It is also sad that they have played 37 games and they have yet to win three in a row, but hey, a 10-27 record doesn't happen by accident.
The Orioles are chasing the Rays for fourth place. They could sweep this whole series and still be in last place. That's pretty sad too. A lot is sad about this season. Perhaps the Orioles will be kind and, on Star Wars Night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, find a little bit of the Force there within them. So we can hope, because otherwise the most appropriate Star Wars quote for the night will be: "I have a bad feeling about this." And you know me. I already do.
