Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Rays, 1:05

Happy Mother's Day, Birdland!

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

The recent deterioration of Dylan Bundy has been a tad alarming. He went from being one of baseball's best starters to begin the year, and now he looks like Chris Tillman. Say what you will about most of the players on this Orioles roster, but Bundy is supposed to be one of the more reliable guys on the team. The organization needs him to be. He is a former first round pick that is expected to be part of the rotation for years to come. A sudden inability to pitch would be a huge problem, even for a rebuilding club.

Of course, it's far too soon to be in a real panic about the right-hander. He was historically bad his last time out. He can, realistically, only go up from there. His two starts prior to that were bad, to be sure, but they weren't any worse than we've see some former Cy Young's perform from time to time. This is baseball, and things happen. The rate of failure is high. If he bounces back today, we will all look back and laugh about how bad he was in this little stretch. If he struggles again? Well, let's not talk about that.
