I’ll keep this one short and sweet. Only two Orioles affiliates had scheduled games Monday night, and only one game was able to be completed. What’s the bright side for a night with such little baseball on the farm? The Orioles affiliates went undefeated.
Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) vs. Bowie Baysox: SUSPENDED (Senators led 6-0 in the third)
The story line in Bowie was former Rule-5 pick Anthony Santander making his debut in Bowie. The outfielder satisfied the required amount of time that he needed to spend on the Major League roster before he could be sent down. He started in right field and did not reach base in his only at bat.
The weather was not kind in Bowie, and neither were the Senators hitters. Harrisburg pounded starter Michael Kelly to the tune of four runs before he could record an out. Kelly simply did not have it Monday night. He walked three hitters and was pulled before recording an out. Luis Ysla replaced Kelly and allowed two runs on four hits in three innings. Ademar Rifaela had the only hit for Bowie.
Delmarva Shorebirds 1, Columbia Fireflies (Mets) 0
Delmarva snuck out a 1-0 victory in a game with very little offense in Columbia. T.J. Nichting drove in Kirvin Moesquit with a fielders choice in the first inning, and that was about it. Both teams had only two hits apiece, and they were all singles.
Michael Baumann pitched seven shutout innings to earn his fifth victory of the year. Still undefeated, Baumann struck out eight hitters and lowered his ERA to 1.42. The righty is the Orioles 13th ranked prospect according to MLB.com. Zach Muckenhirn worked two innings to pick up his third save of the season.
Box scores to the two games can be found here.
