After a successful 5-3 home stand with one rain out, the Orioles are now on the road for 10 games in three cities, starting with four games against the second-place Red Sox. The Red Sox may not be in first place in the A.L. East, but they are still 15.5 games ahead of the Orioles in the standings. That's a lot of games.
The last time the Orioles were in Boston they looked terrible and the only thing that kept them from losing four straight games is the fact that the fourth game was rained out. That game is being made up tonight. The Orioles have to win a game against the Red Sox sometime, why not this evening?
Taking the mound for the O's in their best starter this year, Kevin Gausman. Since starting the season with a clunker where he gave up six runs in just four innings, Gausman has been working on a reverse-Matusz. That is, of course, that his ERA has lowered after every single start this season. Can he do it again today? If so it'll mean that he had another good game. Here's hoping!
Lefty David Price is pitching for the Red Sox, and he's had a rough go of things of late. He's been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, but it's not keeping him from pitching. He may, however, be dialing back on the video games.
The news of the day is that fan favorite Caleb Joseph has been optioned to triple-A and Andrew Susac has been called up. Susac is in the lineup tonight, batting ninth.
The Red Sox are 5-5 in their last ten, same as the Orioles. So that definitely means this should be a fair fight.
Let's go O's!
