So it can be done.
The Orioles finally snapped their 13-game road losing streak, tied for the longest in franchise history, with their nail-biting 7-4 win over the Red Sox at Fenway last night. It was their first win on the road in well over a month; their previous one was April 8 at Yankee Stadium.
Were you, like me, fully convinced the Orioles would find a way to blow it last night? Was it when Alex Cobb started getting cuffed around in the fifth inning? Was it when Trey Mancini dropped a fly ball in left field, opening up a Red Sox rally? Was it when Brad Brach walked the first batter he faced to load the bases for Oriole-destroyer Mookie Betts? On each of those occasions, I sincerely believed that not only would the Orioles lose the game, but they would never win on the road again.
Happily, they held strong and secured the hard-fought W. They've now assured they won't get swept, for just the second time in seven road series. If they can win tonight, they'll clinch their second non-losing road series as well.
It's up to Dylan Bundy, who followed up his five great starts with three disasters before throwing a masterpiece in his last outing against the Rays. Which version of Bundy will show up tonight? Your guess is as good as mine.
