Delmarva lost in extra innings, and the others didn’t fare much better Monday night. A Frederick player picked up a weekly award.

Charlotte Knights (White Sox) 12, Norfolk Tides 6

Charlotte plated eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to lock this one up early. After a scoreless first inning, Yefry Ramirez got taken for a ride to the tune of eight runs and seven hits in 1.2 innings. Chris Lee replaced Ramirez and allowed two runs in 1.2 innings. Andrew Faulkner and Matt Wotherspoon finished the game for Norfolk, and both allowed runs.

Mike Yastrzemski led off and went 2-for-5 with a triple. Renato Nunez also finished 2-for-5 and doubled in the fifth. Caleb Joseph went 0-for-5, but did pick up and RBI in the ninth inning. Joseph also threw out a runner attempting to steal in the second.

Bowie Baysox: Off

Salem Red Sox (Red Sox) 5, Frederick Keys 1

Salem and Frederick both recorded nine hits, but the Red Sox were the team that capitalized. Ofelky Peralta surrendered three runs (two earned) and walked five Salem hitters in five innings. Peralta (1-4) saw his ERA raise to 6.27.

Chris Clare finished 2-3 with two doubles from the nine-hole. Cole Billingsley drove in the lone run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly. However, Billingsley was the only Frederick hitter that did not reach base in the contest. Seven Shorebirds recorded one hit.

Wilson Garcia, who finished 1-4, was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for May 14-20. The first baseman went 10-for-18 in the week, and is hitting .393 in 16 games at Frederick. The Orioles acquired Garcia in a trade with Philadelphia on May 1.

Hickory Crawdads (Rangers) 2, Delmarva Shorebirds 1 (10 innings)

This game’s result was a direct product of the new extra inning rules in 2018. The Crawdads started the 10th with a runner on second base, bunted him to third, and walked it off with a single to center field. Nick Vespi took the loss for Delmarva after allowing the run in the tenth. Brenan Hanifee threw six scoreless innings for the Shorebirds. Hanifee struck out two, walked two and allowed four hits.

Zach Jarrett drove in Mason McCoy to tie the game at one in the ninth inning. Jarret, the only Shorebird to record multiple hits, also doubled in the first. Both teams finished with seven hits.
