Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) 1, Norfolk Tides 0
The Tides did their best impression of the Orioles’ offense Monday, getting shut out and held to three hits. Incredibly, all three hits were by the same guy: Jaycob Brugman, who had three singles. The rest of the Tides’ lineup was a combined 0-for-25. Drew VerHagen worked seven scoreless innings for the Mud Hens.
Jimmy Yacabonis pitched well for the Tides, working 4.2 shutout innings and allowing just one hit, but reliever Matt Wotherspoon surrendered an RBI double in the seventh for the game’s only run.
Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets) 3, Bowie Baysox 2
The Baysox blew a late 2-1 lead, allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth to Binghamton. Reliever Luis Gonzalez gave up an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk to take the loss, though he still has a solid 2.52 ERA this season. Gonzalez’s blown save robbed Jayson Aquino of a victory after he tamed the Rumble Ponies for one run in seven strong innings.
On the offensive side, Ryan Mountcastle continued to crush the baseball, blasting his third home run of the year. Corban Joseph went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while Cedric Mullins had a rare hitless performance, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Austin Hays was out of the lineup for the fourth straight game.
Frederick Keys vs. Down East Wood Ducks (Rangers) — POSTPONED
Rain washed out the Keys’ series finale against the Wood Ducks. They’ll make it up as part of a doubleheader sometime between June 14-17, but the date is yet to be determined. Keeping us in suspense, I see.
Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies) 9, Delmarva Shorebirds 8 (10 innings)
First baseman Seamus Curran was the story in this one, as the 2015 eighth-round pick went a perfect 5-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, and four RBIs. He’s hitting .268 with an .829 OPS for the Shorebirds this year. His efforts, though, weren’t enough to lead Delmarva to victory.
The Shorebirds were forced into catch-up mode after a forgettable outing by starter Jhon Peluffo, who was tagged for five runs in three innings as Delmarva fell into an early 6-3 hole. Delmarva rallied for three runs in the eighth to tie the game, but the BlueClaws jumped back on top in extras, scoring three off Scott Burke in the 10th. The Shorebirds rallied for two in the bottom half of the inning, but Jaylen Ferguson’s game-ending double play stranded the tying run at third.
