Durham Bulls (Rays) 4, Norfolk Tides 1
Durham plated all four of its runs against starter Jimmy Yacabonis with one swing of the bat in the first inning. After two walks and a single, Christian Arroyo blasted a game-breaking grand slam over the left field fence. Joely Rodriguez and Jason Gurka combined for 5.2 innings of scoreless relief for Bowie. Rodriguez struck out five in 2.2 innings pitched.
Alex Presley accounted for the only Norfolk run with a solo shot in the top of the ninth. Presley finished 2-3 and also worked a walk. Norfolk managed only six hits, and Presley was the only member of the Tides with multiple knocks.
Bowie Baysox 2, Altoona Curve (Pirates) 0
In the top of the first, Corban Joseph drove a solo home run towards the wooden roller coaster that sits behind the right-field wall at Altoona. Joseph took pitcher Joe Musgrove deep with two outs to provide Bowie a one run lead. Musgrove, who the Pirates picked up in the Gerrit Cole trade last off season, allowed only two hits and the one run during four innings of a rehab stint in Altoona. Mike Yastrzemski drove in the Baysox only other run with a single in the ninth. Anderson Feliz and Ademar Rifaela had the other two hits for Bowie.
Altoona may have had a pro on the mound, but the star pitcher of the evening wore a Bowie uniform. Jayson Aquino allowed only one hit and struck out seven in seven innings. The lefty responded with a strong performance after being sent down from Triple-A Norfolk. Luis Gonzalez pitched the final two innings for a six-out save. Aquino and Gonzalez retired the final 22 Curve batters.
The game lasted only one hour and 51 minutes.
Frederick Keys 6, Lynchburg Hillcats (Indians) 1
Frederick scored twice in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory. Jonathan Schoop started and played second base as his rehab stint continued. Schoop finished 1-3 with a walk and two RBIs. He singled to left to score two in the sixth inning. Yojhan Quevedo got the Keys on the board with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. He finished 2-4. Jomar Reyes went 2-4 and drove in the other two runs for Frederick.
Starter Cristian Alvarado allowed only three hits and one run in six innings for the Keys. Tyler Erwin picked up the save with three innings of shutout ball. He struck out six, and lowered his ERA to 0.49 in 10 games this season.
Delmarva Shorebirds 4, Augusta GreenJackets (Giants) 3
The Shorebirds tallied 12 hits on the evening and held on for a 4-3 victory in Delmarva. Will Robertson got the Birds on the board with a two-run single in the second. Kirvin Moesquit drove in the third run of the inning with a single to left. Manuel Geraldo scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to provide the Shorebirds some insurance. Robertson and Moesquit were two of five hitters with multiple hits for Delmarva. Mason McCoy, T.J. Nichting, and Trevor Craport also had two hits for the Shorebirds.
Michael Baumann struck out nine in six innings for Delmarva. Baumann (4-0) allowed five hits, two runs (one earned), and two walks in the outing. He lowered his ERA to 1.74 in six games. Reed Hayes notched his fourth save for Delmarva.
