It’s Monday, Camden Chatters, and you were all probably better off if you spent your weekend ignoring the baseball team this site is dedicated to.
The Orioles were just swept in four games by the fourth place Toronto Blue Jays, and they lost in pretty much every way possible. On Thursday they took a comfortable lead into the ninth inning and then blew it. Friday they had one of those standard losses that you expect to see even from good teams. Saturday they fought back to tie late in the game and then lost in extra innings on a walk off walk.
Yesterday they were just straight up pummeled, losing by 10 runs. You can read all about that one in Tyler Young’s recap, if you have the stomach for it.
And now they get to face the Red Sox!
It’s hard to know what to say about this team anymore. Presumably at some point they’ll start trading away players, and I look forward to that. At least it will give us something to focus on, some idea about the future.
The team right now is just so unfathomably bad. We are approaching mid-June and they are on pace to win just 48 games. They are definitely the best at being the worst, it seems.
If you’ve been keeping an eye on Chris Davis’s strikeout totals, he picked up two more yesterday after being given both Friday and Saturday off. His career total is now 1587, nine behind Mark McGwire for for 44th most all time. His Orioles total is 1285, just 20 shy of the franchise record held by Cal Ripken.

There is a nice bit on Trey Mancini in David Laurila's Sunday notes. I like that Laurila refers to Mancini as a "thoughtful slugger."
Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! You have zero Orioles birthday buddies. But you do share a birthday with the star of Transformers, Shia LaBeouf, so that’s something.
