Orioles minor league recap 6/12: Frederick wins in extras, and there’s a whole lot of rain

Frederick snuck out a 1-0 victory in 10 innings. A double header was washed away in Norfolk, and Delmarva was also rained out.

This will be a quick one. Both games of Norfolk’s scheduled double header with Gwinnett were rained out. The Tides will attempt to play two again tonight. Delmarva already had a scheduled double header for Tuesday, and Monday’s game will not be made up. Frederick also has two games scheduled for this evening.

Frederick Keys 1, Lynchburg Hillcats (Indians) 0

T. J. Nichting started the bottom of the 10th on second base for the Keys. After Cole Billingsley struck out swinging, Chris Clare laced a line drive to right field to score Nichting and give the Keys a walk-off win. Lynchburg also managed a single in the top of the frame with a man on second, but the runner was held at third. After an intentional walk to load the bases with two outs, Zach Muckenhirn came up with a huge strike out to keep the game scoreless.

Muckenhirn (1-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Starter Alex Wells was nearly flawless through eight shoutout innings. Wells struck out nine, allowed only three hits, and did not walk a single hitter. Frederick finished with six hits on the night. Ryan McKenna had two of those from the leadoff spot.
