Orioles minors 6/3: Rain everywhere, wins for Bowie and Norfolk

Rain washed away Frederick and Delmarva on Saturday. On the bright side, Norfolk and Bowie were both winners.

Norfolk Tides 7, Rochester (Twins) 3

The Tides had a couple of three-run home runs in a six-run fifth inning and that was all they needed. Caleb Joseph hit one of them - his first home run since his minor league demotion - while third baseman Drew Dosch picked up the other. This was Dosch’s third home run of the season.

Playing in his second Triple-A game, Cedric Mullins was 1-4 and drew a walk. Let’s see some more of those! The Orioles outfield could use a boost, as we have seen with increasing urgency over the past couple of games.

The Jimmy Yacabonis-as-starter experiment continues. Yacabonis held the Red Wings to one run on a hit and two walks in five innings, picking up two strikeouts in the process. Yacabonis threw just 65 pitches in getting through five, so maybe when they start stretching him out more, he might be able to handle that challenge.

Bowie Baysox 2, Trenton (Yankees) 1

This one goes in the win column for Bowie despite being out-hit 8-5 in the game. A pair of Trenton errors made all the difference in the game, with erstwhile Oriole Anthony Santander picking up the lone Bowie RBI.

Rehabbing big leaguer Colby Rasmus took an 0-3 in the contest. Ryan Mountcastle was also 0-3.

On the mound, Keegan Akin kept the Thunder off the board for his five innings of work, though he only struck out two batters. Akin scattered three hits and three walks while throwing 88 pitches. Maryland’s own Branden Kline gave up a run in 2.2 relief innings, now sporting a 2.70 ERA on the season.

Frederick Keys - postponed, rain

Delmarva Shorebirds - suspended, rain

The Shorebirds have a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. They’ll resume this one tomorrow and then play a seven inning game after that.
