Following two wins in New York, it looked like maybe the Orioles had finally found some life. But the land north of the border hasn't been kind to the O's over the past two evenings. After a blown save on Thursday and a lifeless offensive performance (standard for the 2018 Birds) yesterday, they're back down to twenty-four games under .500 and still haven't picked up their twentieth win of the season. *Checks calendar* It is June 9.
The O's turn to Kevin Gausman today, whose ERA is going in the wrong direction. After spending much of the season as a bright spot, his ERA is up to 4.63 following two bad outings. The very talented Aaron Sanchez, who is looking to get his season on track, goes for Toronto.
The bullpen will look a little different today, as Darren O'Day has been activated from the disabled list. He last appeared on May 4 and was finding his groove prior to being injured. O'Day is a key part in the O's bullpen and his return is welcomed. Unfortunately, Tanner Scott is being sent back to the minors to make room. Scott has had mixed results this year but has a live arm (23 strikeouts in 16.1 innings) and will contribute for years. As the losses continue to pile up, I hope we get to watch Scott again in the very near future.
O's fans will be interested to see Chris Davis out of the lineup in favor of Pedro Alvarez. Danny Valencia is batting cleanup again, even against a right-handed pitcher. Chance Sisco is back behind the plate after Austin Wynns started the past two contests.
