Toledo Mud Hens 7, Norfolk Tides 2

Jimmy Yacabonis had a night to forget — it was his worst start of the year. He didn’t even make it out of the first, allowing seven runs in 0.2 innings. Control was an issue, seeing as he gave up five walks. His final stat line also included two hits, one strikeout and one home run. At the start of the game, Yacabonis’ ERA was 2.95 and by the time he exited it had risen to 3.90.

On the positive side, DJ Stewart was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. He also had a walk and two strikeouts. All things considered, the Norfolk offense stalled, managing only four hits the entire game, including Stewart’s home run. The right-fielder’s triple slash line for the season is now .242/.349/.410.

Frederick Keys 6, Down East Wood Ducks 4

The Keys tallied ten hits in this one, scoring three runs in the fourth and three in the ninth to overtake the Wood Ducks. Wilson Garcia and Preston Palmeiro had home runs, their 19th and 14th of the year, respectively. Garcia is now slashing .323/.355/.563 on the year, and Palmeiro is at .261/.316/.414. Catcher Stuart Levy also launched his second homer of the year. Big third baseman Jomar Reyes had a pair of hits, including a double, to raise his average to .248.

On the mound, Matthias Dietz got a no decision, allowing four runs over 5.2 innings. He allowed eight hits, three walks, three strikeouts and one home run. His ERA for the year now stands at a bloated 7.85, which was actually lowered since his previous start when he gave up three runs in 0.2 innings.

Kannapolis Intimidators 8, Delmarva Shorebirds 2

The Shorebirds tallied eight hits on Friday night but only scored two runs. They were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position, leaving eight men on base. Left fielder Zach Jarrett and third baseman Trevor Craport were each 2-for-4, with Craport and Will Robertson accounting for Delmarva’s two RBI. On the year, Jarrett is hitting .289/.359/.463 and Craport is hitting .255/.327/.416.

On the pitching side, Jhon Peluffo took the loss for the Shorebirds and he is now 3-6 on the year with a 6.38 ERA. He lasted five innings in this one, allowing six hits and four runs with one walk and two strikeouts.
