Sunday Bird Droppings: Where the Orioles are just sad

Will Manny get traded? How about Zach? Will the Orioles ever win again?

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at Minnesota Twins Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Happy Sunday, Camden Chatters! The good news is that the weather yesterday was gorgeous and it’ll be more of the same today before heat returns this week. The bad news is that the Orioles go into today trying to avoid begin swept in a four-game series by a bad team, only to come home to face the Yankees tomorrow.

What is there to say about this team that hasn’t already been said? They continue to lose, yesterday it was 5-4 to the Twins in a game they led 3-0 after the first inning. You can read all about it in Mark’s recap. Enjoy.

If not for a win against the Angels last Sunday, the Orioles would be in the midst of 13-game losing streak. So thank goodness for that win, I guess. They are now on pace to lose 118 games. After 88 games, the 1988 Orioles were on pace for 109 losses. They ultimately lost 107. If the 2018 Orioles want to lose “only” 107 games, they will have to go 31-43. That’s a winning % of .418. Their current winning % is .273.

Fry forcing Orioles to keep him on roster - School of Roch
On Friday night the Orioles lost, but not because of Paul Fry. He faced seven batters and retired every single one, with four strikeouts. He's been pretty good.

Orioles’ Jonathan Schoop searches for form at the plate that made him an All-Star a year ago - Baltimore Sun
There have been a lot of things to be sad about this year for the Orioles, but this I think makes me the saddest. He has gone 8 for his last 20 so maybe he’s getting it together?

Orioles have received offers from seven teams for Manny Machado so far, per report - MLB Daily Dish
The Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Brewers, Cubs, Braves, Indians, and Phillies all want him. Don't mess this up, Duquette!

Good! Trade him. Now is not the time to give a hoot about if it's to a division rival.

Braves trading for Machado not worth the price or the risk | Columbus Ledger-Enquirer
This columnist thinks that the Braves would have to give up too much to get Manny Machado and that it would only be worth is if the Braves win the World Series. Yes, that's the point, Braves columnist.

Daily Dose: Reynolds Rap - Yahoo! Sports
Old friend Mark Reynolds had two home runs and 10 RBI in last night’s game! You don’t see that very often.

Is today your birthday? Happy birthday! Your three Orioles birthday buddies played a combined 41 games for the Orioles in three different decades. Danny Ardoin, who appeared in five games for the 2006 Orioles, turns 44 today. Outfielder Jerome Walton, 53, played in 26 games for the wire-to-wire 1997 team. And John Powers posted an OPS+ of -1 in 10 games in 1960. Born in 1929, Powers passed away in 2001.

On this day in 2011, the Orioles were losing big to the Red Sox in the eighth inning when David Ortiz got sad and angry that someone didn’t worship the ground he walked on. That person was Kevin Gregg, who pitched Ortiz inside and then yelled at him for not running out a pop up. The two pretended to punch each other for a bit after Ortiz charged the mound, and it’s the only thing anyone fondly remembers about the Kevin Gregg era of Orioles baseball.
