Having lost game one by a score of 5-0, the Orioles will now go for a split of their doubleheader against the Red Sox. You can read all the recap action of game one courtesy of Ben Hansford here.
Yefry Ramirez will take the mound for the O’s. Like Jimmy Yacabonis, who started the first game against Boston, Ramirez has had problems pitching deep into games. The Orioles could use some innings. In seven starts this year, Ramirez has a 5.66 ERA and 1.49 WHIP, but he does have 35 strikeouts in 35 innings. Against Ramirez, Mookie Betts is 2-for-5 with two home runs and J.D. Martinez is 1-for-4 with a home run.
Hector Velazquez will get the start for Boston. He is primarily a reliever, owning a 7-0 record to go along with a 2.64 ERA. In 8.1 innings against the O’s this year, he is 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA. This will be his fourth start of the year. A few O’s have had success in very limited at-bats against him. Adam Jones is 3-for-4 in his career against Velazquez with one RBI and Trey Mancini is 2-for-4.
