The Orioles have a chance to win a series against a division-leading team this afternoon. Yefry Ramirez will oppose Mike Clevanger at 1:10 in Cleveland.
Ramirez has quite the act to follow after Alex Cobb’s complete game victory yesterday. He will take the mound for the Orioles following Alex Cobb’s complete gave victory yesterday. Unfortunately for Ramirez and us, he has been a completely different pitcher on the road as opposed to at Camden Yards. His home ERA is a very respectable 3.81. His road ERA is 9.26. Somebody tell him that this game is being played in Baltimore! Because of Cobb’s heroics yesterday, the bullpen is quite rested and Buck Showalter probably won’t hesitate to call on it early if needed.
Offensively, the lineup looks slightly different than we’ve seen lately. Jonathan Villar gets the start at shortstop with Tim Beckham getting the day off. He will bat third. Villar moving to short means that Jace Peterson will get a start at second base. Trey Mancini will hit second. Cedric Mullins leads off again, a spot he will hopefully hold onto for many years. Caleb Joseph is behind the plate. Chris Davis is batting fifth... again.
Craig Gentry starts for the second game in a row for a rebuilding team that is 49 games under .500. That is hard to understand. I’ve always thought that Gentry’s speed and defense makes him a nice asset for a contending team, especially when rosters expand in September. Could the O’s be trying to showcase him for a potential trade? That is the only acceptable reason for him being in the lineup.
Indians starter Mike Clevinger pitched a complete game shutout against the Orioles in April and that O’s lineup included Manny Machado and Adam Jones. Hopefully the O’s do better today.
