Andrew Cashner will start the series opener tonight at Toronto, and hopefully he’ll pitch more like Alex Cobb two days ago than like Yefry Ramirez yesterday. In his last two starts, Cashner has only allowed three earned runs in 14 innings. In four career starts at Rogers Centre, the big right-hander has a 2.92 ERA. Curtis Granderson is hitting .250 with a home run in 20 career at-bats against Cashner, Russell Martin is carrying a .214 average and one home run in 14 at-bats and Justin Smoak is only hitting .077 in 13 at-bats against the righty.
The Blue Jays will counter with right-hander Marco Estrada, who has pitched well in his career against the Orioles, collecting a 3.46 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 91 innings pitched. The O’s will hope to catch him on a downswing, seeing as he’s allowed nine earned runs in 12 innings over his last two starts. Tim Beckham is hitting .118 in 17 career at-bats against Estrada, Chris Davis is hitting .176 with three home runs in 34 career at-bats and Adam Jones has a pair of home runs and a .257 average in 35 at-bats.
The Orioles carried out a flurry of roster moves today, activating Adam Jones from the bereavement list and recalling outfielder John Andreoli, who was claimed off waivers two days ago from the Seattle Mariners. To make room, Joey Rickard was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk and Mark Trumbo was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right knee inflammation.
