Tuesday night Orioles game thread: vs. Athletics, 7:05

The Orioles get back to Baltimore tonight after a three city road trip that took them from the midwest, to the Pacific Northwest, to Florida. The O’s won one game on that trip and are happy to be home. We can just hope they don’t expect a large, enthusiastic crowd to show up to cloudy Camden Yards tonight.

The big news of the day came in the form of roster moves. The Orioles announced earlier that they are calling up D.J. Stewart and Cody Carroll. We can wonder what took so long to summon Stewart, the club’s 2015 first round pick. It will definitely be more interesting to watch him than Joey Rickard and John Andreoli, so this is a reason to tune into games down the stretch. Stewart is not in tonight’s lineup, but Buck Showalter said that he will play tomorrow.

Adam Jones is back in the lineup tonight after sitting out all three games in Tampa. Buck talked about his playing time earlier.

In case you have difficulty reading between the lines, Jones’ tenure in Baltimore seems to be winding to a close. Enjoy watching a great Oriole while you can.

Alex Cobb takes the mound tonight and will try to keep lowering his ERA, which is now under five. He allowed one run over the last six innings when he faced Oakland earlier this year. Cobb is by far the O’s best pitcher right now, so let’s hope they take advantage of him being on the bump.

Cedric Mullins gets the start in center field tonight. Chris Davis will get a day off in the field and serve as DH while Trey Mancini starts at first base. That opens an outfield spot for Rickard. Breyvic Valera starts at second base.
