Alex Cobb will take the hill tonight for the Orioles in an attempt to snap their four-game losing streak. He will try to rebound from his last outing – a rough one against Toronto after six straight quality starts. Cobb has a 6.29 ERA and a 1-2 record in four previous career starts at Seattle’s Safeco Field, but has a chance to show he can be a stopper in the Orioles’ questionable rotation.
Jonathan Villar is getting his fifth start of the season as the Orioles’ shortstop, showcasing the possibility for the starting job there in 2019. He has homered in each of the past two games. He moves up one spot in the order as well, replacing Cedric Mullins against lefty Wade LeBlanc.
Mullins’ splits favor his hitting from the left side, but isn’t the point of September games to see the players who could have key roles in the future? Joey Rickard is getting the start in center and John Andreoli will be in left. Andreoli is new to the team, but he’s 28 and unlikely to play a big part in the Orioles rebuild. And we pretty much know what Rickard can offer at this point.
Here’s the lineup (without Mullins):
- Jonathan Villar - SS
- Joey Rickard - CF
- Trey Mancini - 1B
- Adam Jones - RF
- Chris Davis - DH
- Renato Núñez - 3B
- John Andreoli - LF
- Breyvic Valera - 2B
- Austin Wynns - C
With Cobb on the mound to start things off.
