Morning, Birdland!
The Orioles are a bad baseball team regardless of the venue, but it is truly astounding how poorly they play away from Camden Yards. There is potential that the O’s do not end up with the worst home record in baseball. Their 24-44 record in the friendly confines is only one win worse than the Royals, and just three behind the Padres. With 13 games remaining at Oriole Park, there is hope.
What the O’s have no chance of salvaging is their record away from Oriole Park. Coming into today, they are a measly 17-54 on the road with just 10 games left to be played. The next closest team is Kansas City with four more wins and more games left on the docket.
However, the Orioles did manage to buck the trend on Tuesday with a 5-3 win over the Mariners at Safeco Field. Brice Freeman recapped the lovely totals.

Although it has been an awful season in Baltimore, the second half has been an improvement over the dreadful opening to the year. Trey Mancini’s performance is a big reason why, and it gives us some hope that brighter days are ahead.
Ortiz excited to extend season after callup - MLB.com
We may not see Yusniel Diaz or Ryan Mountcastle in an Orioles uniform this season, but one of the organization’s top pitching prospects will be making his way to town. Luis Ortiz has been promoted from Triple-A Norfolk. He may only get one start or a couple of bullpen appearances, but it’s fun to see the names you hear about get up to the bigs.
Davis is Orioles’ nominee for Clemente Award - MLB.com
Before we get to the sassy comebacks at the thought of Chris Davis winning an award, understand that this goes to a player that is very involved in the community and as one of the longest tenured Orioles, it makes sense that Crush would be in contention here. Let’s be happy and nice for a moment....OK, moving on!
Orioles to wear Braille lettering on jerseys - The Baltimore Sun
You have to admit that the Orioles have done some pretty cool theme nights this season. Of course it is in an effort to sell tickets, but that doesn’t make it less cool. Does it?

Is it your birthday? Happy Birthday!
It is also the big day for right-handed pitcher Calvin Maduro (b. 1974), a member of the Orioles from 2000 through 2002, right-handed pitcher Jimmy Haynes (b. 1972) from the ‘95 and ‘96 teams and Tom Patton (b. 1935), a catcher for one game in 1957

1995 - Cal Ripken ties Lou Gehrig by appearing in his 2,130th consecutive game. The O’s beat the Angels 8-0 on this day.
