The World Series could reach its conclusion tonight. The only thing that has to happen is that the Astros have to be the first team during this series to actually win a home game. It’s not that hard. Tell them, Wash.
There was not a whole lot of suspense when the series was in Washington, especially during the last two games. They were butt-whippings, with the Astros racking up a run differential of 19-3. Those are shellackings. Only two of the five games so far have ended in save situations.
We could still be coming down to a tense ending even though there hasn’t been a ton of late-game excitement in the series so far. There’s certainly another marquee starting pitching matchup here, with Justin Verlander pitching for Houston and Stephen Strasburg going for the Nationals. The Nats have yet to lose any of the games started by Strasburg this postseason: Two in the NLDS (including a ten-inning win that had little to do with Strasburg), one in the NLCS, and Game 2 of this World Series.
Reportedly, Max Scherzer, who was scratched from a Game 5 start, is able to pitch today, so there’s some more drama potential. If things play out in such a way that Scherzer is needed to lock down a Nationals lead in order to send the series to seventh game, that would be the kind of legend that people remember about this series.
Like the rest of the games in this series, things will get under way at about 8pm on Fox.
