Camden Chat Home Run Derby League 2019!

The CC Home Run Derby League is back for 2019!

Wonderful and glorious CC stalwart AMD ran the contest for several years, but I took over last year, and you can tell this thing isn't rigged because my team SUCKED.

Anyways...

The rules are simple. Pick a team of seven sluggers from Major League Baseball, and win prizes for hitting the most combined home runs. Any player can be chosen, and the same player can be on multiple teams. Those players are on your team for the entire year. Last year's league standings and results can be seen here to give you an idea of how it works. Here's the catch though: The combined total of home runs hit by the players on your team in the 2018 season must be less than or equal to 162.

If you so choose, you can pick 1 player to be on your "bench", while still adhering to the 162 home run limit from the 2018 season. The bench player's home run total will not count towards your overall home run total during the 2019 season. At any point during the season, you can make one and only one substitution. At this time, you can move your bench player into your starting lineup and bench someone else. Once your one substitution is over, there is no going back. You have to stick with the seven starting players on your squad for the rest of the year.

(This has never come up, but to be clear about the substitution, once a player has begun play for the day, he's locked in at least for that day. So you couldn't theoretically let a player with a game on the east coast get several at-bats and then swap him out for a player with the game on the west coast. I'm overthinking this, but in case it ever comes up, that's the ruling!)

So your two choices upon entry into the league are thus:

1. Submit a list of seven players whose combined home run total from the 2018 season does not exceed 162.

2. Submit a list of eight players whose combined home run total from the 2018 season does not exceed 162. Designate one of those players as your Bench/Sub. At any point during the season, you can make one and only one substitution, bringing the bench player into your lineup and permanently benching one other player. Home runs hit by a player while "on the bench" do not count towards your total.

Just like last year, there will be a 50 "high-five" entry fee, due to me in Paypal gift format (select "friends and family") by the beginning of the season. There will be a prize awarded for most team home runs in each month, as well as a prize for the overall leader at the All-Star Break, and of course the grand prize for the overall winner at the end of the season. Prize values will be determined by the number of entries, with roughly 1/3 of the pool going to monthly winners and 2/3 going to the ASB and overall winners.

50 High-Five Entry fee (via Paypal) and team player lists will be due to me by the start of the first game of the season (March 20 !!). The email address to send both to is daveaa005 at gmail dot com. Take note of the extremely early start of the season this year!

I've submitted my lineup to a mysterious third party designee. You can start sending me your lineups and high fives at this time.

We will keep the same rules as last year - No Home Run Minimum for 2018.

Good luck!
