Video: Chris Davis breaks out of record hitless streak

The streak is over!

MLB: Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

It’s finally over. Chris Davis got a hit for the first time since last September. He holds the record now for the longest hitless streak of at-bats and plate appearances by any position player. The 0-54 in his last 54 ABs will go on no longer. Davis broke the 0-for.

Even better news for Orioles fans is that Davis picked a clutch moment to get his first hit in a long time. He came to bat in the top of the first inning of Saturday’s game against the Red Sox with the bases loaded. Red Sox starter Rick Porcello seemed to have made the choice to pitch around Rio Ruiz with two outs. Ruiz walked to load them up and bring up Davis.

Then, finally, deliverance:

Davis is now 1 for his last 1, and the Orioles have an early 2-0 lead in the game. It’s already a good day for Davis. Hopefully it ends up being a good day for the Orioles as well.
