Sunday afternoon Orioles game thread: vs. Angels, 1:05

New, comments

The Orioles will look to salvage a game from their series with the Angels. And John Means is on the mound, so there’s a shot.

The Orioles are trying to sidestep being swept for the fourth time this season. And they’re sending their biggest find of the year to help them do it.

After a pair of rough losses, Baltimore will look to take the third game of its home series with the Los Angeles Angels this afternoon. The Angels won the first two games, 8-3 and 7-2.

The Orioles will give the ball to John Means, who has been a revelation so far in the pitching staff. Means is 4-3 with a 2.48 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, and is coming off of a stellar outing against the suddenly-hot Red Sox in which he allowed just one run and three hits in seven innings.

He had a bad day in his previous start, allowing four runs in five innings against the White Sox, but aside from that outing has pitched to a 1.65 ERA this season.

Opposing him will be Griffin Canning, 1-0 with a 4.66 ERA. It’ll be Canning’s second start of the season; in his last outing, he picked up the win against Detroit while allowing four hits, two runs and striking out seven in 5.1 innings.

Of note in the Orioles’ lineup: Dwight Smith Jr. is back batting second, where he hit in the first seven games of the season and 10 of the first 13, but hasn’t batted since April 11.

Chris Davis will also hit cleanup for the first time this season.
