Well, this is going to be a quick one: very little Mother’s Day baseball was played by Orioles affiliates as Frederick, Bowie, and Delmarva all got rained out. The Tides fell, 8-5, to Toronto’s AAA team, the Buffalo Bisons, in Game 1 of a doubleheader and got rained out in Game 2.
Buffalo (Blue Jays) 8, Norfolk Tides 5
Luis Ortiz (1-3, 6.31 ERA) did not have a Mother’s Day to remember, going 5.1 innings and giving up 7 runs. After scoring two through the first five innings, the Bisons sent 11 men to the plate in the sixth. That inning, Ortiz gave up four singles and an intentional BB before he was pulled for Josh Lucas (0-0, 4.76 ERA), who allowed an inherited run to score and gave up two of his own on a flurry of singles. The sixth run of the inning was pushed across by 3B Cavan Biggio—name ring a bell?
As for the Tides’ offense, the top and bottom third of the lineup were ice cold, but hitters 4-5-6 had a great day, accounting for all five Tides runs. Jace Peterson went 2-for-2 with a double, triple, a walk and two runs scored. Chance Sisco had a 2-run homer in the fourth, which you can enjoy below:
DJ Stewart, DHing for the day, went 1-for-2 with a walk and a 2-run dinger in the sixth inning. Since this is such a short recap, let’s take a look at that one, too.
