The Orioles are in New York to try and get some wins.

When I saw that the Yankees for some reason decided to start this game at 6:35 rather than the traditional and correct time of 7:05 (I will also accept 7:10), I did what everyone does when they need a question answered. I went to Google. Into the Google search bar I typed “Why are Yankees games” and Google helpfully autofilled “at 6:35.” So I guess I’m not the only one wondering!

Based on this story, “the change is part of an effort to better accommodate the varying needs of the fans, continuing ongoing efforts to improve the fan experience for every guest at Yankee Stadium.” That’s not a very satisfying answer. The Yankees did it for a trial run in April and apparently it went well, because here we are in mid-May and it’s still happening. Future games are still listed at 7:05.

Anyway, welcome to baseball at 6:30. That’s annoying for me because that’s when I like to eat dinner. I have a very rigid schedule! The Yankees do not care about my varying needs, it seems.

Tonight on the mound for the Orioles is David Hess against Luis Cessa for the Yankees. Of the current five-man rotation, Hess’s 5.50 ERA ranks second to last to Dan Straily. He’s made one start against the Yankees this year and he gave up three home runs in five innings.

For the Yankees, this is Cessa’s first start of the season. Jonathan Loaisiga was originally scheduled to make the start but was just placed on the IL with a shoulder strain. Cessa has pitched more than two innings in just two of his 11 games this season, so look for this to be a bullpen game.
