At one point against the Yankees last night, the O’s had a 6-1 lead. But the game slipped away in the later innings, with New York winning by a final score of 10-7. The matchup was punctuated by several Oriole gaffes in the field — like overthrowing the cutoff man and losing a pop-up, to name a few. So tonight will be a test of the Orioles’ resiliency.
In 2019, the Yankees are responsible for seven of the 14 home runs David Hess has allowed. And the O’s right-hander has not had much luck pitching at home this year either. In three starts at Camden Yards in 2019, he is 0-2 with a 7.07 ERA.
Tonight’s Oriole lineup has a different look to it. Stevie Wilkerson is leading off for the first time this year. With the start of this game, he will have hit in every spot in the lineup except cleanup. Jonathan Villar finds himself hitting fifth for the first time this season. In the past, he’s gotten the majority of his at-bats in the leadoff spot.
