I have good news for you, folks. After today, the Orioles don’t have to play the Yankees for three months.
I think all of us are more than ready for a break from those pinstriped ruffians, who have won eight games in a row over the Orioles, including all six at Camden Yards this year. We’re especially tired of seeing Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez, who have combined for 19 home runs against the O’s this year. Torres has 10 of them, and only a dozen for the season, making him the first player in MLB history to hit 10 of his first 12 homers against a single opponent. Sanchez has hit more home runs at Camden Yards this year (seven) than at his home ballpark, Yankee Stadium (six).
But wait, what’s this? Neither Torres nor Sanchez is in the starting lineup this afternoon! Pshaw. We don’t need your pity, Aaron Boone.
Scratch that — yes we do. We very much need your pity.
Will Dylan Bundy, coming off a stretch of competent starts, be able to take advantage of the Yankees’ B-lineup? Knowing the recent history of O’s vs. Yankees, I’m not optimistic, but let’s see what happens.
