Orioles minor league recap 6/11: Grayson Rodriguez bounces back, Delmarva loses late

Grayson Rodriguez allowed just one hit through four innings, but Delmarva fell victim to a late-inning grand slam.

MLB: Chicago White Sox at Baltimore Orioles Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

West Virginia Power (Pirates) 5, Delmarva Shorebirds 4

In the only game actually played by an Orioles affiliate last night, the Shorebirds squandered a four-run advantage before falling 5-4. West Virginia used a grand slam by Jake Anchia to climb all the way back and secure the victory. Tim Naughton surrendered the blast after Matthew Hammonds worked his way into some trouble.

Despite the loss, the story of the night was Grayson Rodriguez bouncing back from his first bad start of the season. Rodriguez allowed only one hit through four shutout innings. The Orioles first-round-pick from the 2018 draft struck out six, but did walk three batters. Rodriguez had been nearly untouchable prior to his last start. After allowing seven runs against the Intimidators his last time out, Rodriguez responded in a big way.

Robbie Thorburn, Cadyn Grenier and JC Encarnacion all homered for Delmarva. All three homers were solo shots, and Grenier’s and Encarnacion’s came back-to-back in the fifth. Nick Horvath drove in the Shorebirds other run with an RBI double in the fourth.

Frederick Keys vs. Carolina Mudcats (Brewers) POSTPONED
