Orioles minor league recap 6/17: Aberdeen stumbles on a slow night

The IronBirds fell 4-1 in the only game played by an Orioles affiliate last night.

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Brooklyn Cyclones (Mets) 4, Aberdeen IronBirds 1

This one is going to be short and sweet. Aberdeen dropped the only game played by an Orioles affiliate, 4-1, to the Brooklyn Cyclones. The New York affiliate scored once in the bottom of the first, and added three runs in the bottom half of the third. Aberdeen managed its only run in the top of the sixth.

Adam Stauffer took the loss for Aberdeen after surrendering all four runs in four innings. The 19th-round pick from the 2017 draft allowed only three hits, and only two of the runs were earned. He struck out five, but did surrender a long ball.

Brooklyn picked up its first run on a sacrifice fly in the first. The Cyclones broke through again thanks to a throwing error by Aberdeen catcher Cody Roberts on a pickoff throw to third base. Brooklyn hitter Luke Ritter put the game out of reach with a two-run home run following the error.

Robert Neustrom drove in the IronBirds lone run with a single that plated Ian Evans. Reed Hayes, a 13th round pick in 2017, pitched four scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Aberdeen.
