Gabriel Ynoa will try to wrangle the Orioles into line in Game 2 of a three-game series against the A’s.

It’s a dirty job, but somebody’s got to do it.

Good evening, night owls! Did you remember to #VoteTrey today? I know I did, and I’m expecting results any day now.

Last night, the O’s lost a rather serious baseball game—no home runs, bullpen shenanigans or late-inning errors. But they did fail to score after the second inning, Will the bats wake up against the A’s lefty Brett Anderson?

The southpaw Anderson has a decent 6-4, 3.89 line this season. He relies heavily on his sinker, slider, and changeup. The velocity isn’t going to blow you away, which makes Anderson just the sort of thrower that tends to flummox this lineup. A few Orioles have histories against the veteran (no home runs, for what it’s worth). Hanser Alberto is 2-for-6, Mancini has a .286 average in 7 at-bats, Jonathan Villar is .111 in 11 trips to the plate, and Pedro Severino is 1-for-3.

Gabe Ynoa is not what you’d call a seasoned veteran, but he’s shaping up to be a reliable fixture in the back end of this rotation. He’s lost or gotten a no-decision in his last three starts, but he hasn’t been a disaster, either. Ynoa has seen almost none of this Athetics lineup: Robbie Grossman is 2-for-2 against him, and Stephen Piscotty 0-for-1. Let’s hope the element of surprise works in the Orioles’ favor.

Join me on the thread if you care to make this a late one—I’ll be here all game (I have to be)!
