Friday night Orioles game thread: at Mariners, 10:10

It’s another bullpen game for the Orioles, who are trying to avoid their 10th straight loss.

There’s no way you recognize this person, so I’ll just tell you: it’s Sean Gilmartin, tonight’s starting pitcher.

How appropriate that tonight’s game starts — on the East Coast, at least — at 10:10? The number 10 is on everyone’s minds as the O’s take the field tonight. A loss tonight would be their 10th in a row.

Even last year’s wretched Orioles club never lost 10 consecutive games. No Orioles team has since 2010 (hey, there’s that number 10 again!). That club, which started the year 32-73 before Buck Showalter was hired as manager, suffered their 10-game losing streak May 26-June 5, losing two to the A’s, three to the Blue Jays, three to the Yankees, and two to the Red Sox before a walkoff win snapped the skid.

A walkoff win isn’t an option for the Orioles tonight, being the road team and all, but maybe they can luck into a victory somehow. I’d feel much better about that possibility if the Birds’ originally scheduled starter, John Means, were on the hill. But he’s sidelined with a left shoulder strain. Instead, the assignment goes to...Sean Gilmartin? OK, sure. Whatever. Nothing even matters anymore.

For those who are staying up to watch, come chat with us. For those who aren’t, I don’t blame you a bit.
