Tuesday night Orioles game thread: at Rangers, 8:05

Another road trip begins as Chris Davis returns from the injured list to face his former team.

Strap in, Orioles fans. The O’s are heading out on the road again, this time to face the two best clubs in the AL West.

On their last three road jaunts, the Orioles are a combined 3-12, with no more than one win on any of the trips. This six-game trek will pit the Orioles against the mighty Astros over the weekend, but first, they’ll square off with the surprising Rangers, who sit in second place in the division with a 30-27 record. They’re currently riding a 13-5 streak and have won three in a row.

Former Ranger Chris Davis, who’d been on the IL since May 25 with left hip inflammation, returns to the Orioles lineup tonight against lefty Drew Smyly, just his seventh start against a southpaw this year. The struggling Smyly has been hit especially hard by lefties this season (.303/.395/.697), so perhaps Davis can pull himself out of his 1-for-19 funk. His return pushes Trey Mancini back to right field and the slumping DJ Stewart (0-for-his-last-15) to the bench.

With Pedro Severino behind the plate, Chance Sisco, who was called up yesterday, will have to wait at least one more day to make his 2019 debut.
