Orioles minor league recap 6/6: Fenter and Rom combine for Shorebirds shutout

Norfolk Tides 7, Durham (Rays) 2

Joey Rickard had a nice night at the plate. The center fielder drove in four runs on two hits, including a three-run homer. Stevie Wilkerson also recorded two hits and scored twice in five at-bats. Cedric Mullins went 1-for-4. Mark Trumbo singled and walked in four trips to the plate, while Ryan Mountcastle went hitless.

Tyler Herb battled through eight hits, two home runs and two walks to allow just two runs on three strikeouts in five innings. Out of the bullpen, Chandler Shepherd racked up five strikeouts in three innings. Evan Phillips closed things out with a scoreless ninth inning.

Bowie Baysox 3, New Hampshire (Blue Jays) 2

Ryan McKenna led the Baysox with two hits and two runs scored to go along with his seventh stolen base of the season. Mason McCoy tripled for the fourth time this year and added a walk. Austin Hays doubled, scored a run, drove in a run and walked. Yusniel Diaz, Anderson Feliz and Rylan Bannon all singled once in four at-bats.

Bruce Zimmermann turned in a solid start for Bowie, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, three walks and eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings. Francisco Jimenez earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts. And Zach Muckenhirn notched his second save of the season with four strikeouts over the final two innings of the game.

Delmarva Shorebirds 3, Kannapolis (White Sox) 0

It was all about the pitching in this game. Gray Fenter started for the Shorebirds and delivered five one-hit, scoreless innings, striking out five and giving up no walks to earn the win. Drew Rom came out of the bullpen to record a four-inning save by striking out four batters, walking none and allowing three hits but no runs in a solid night of work.

Delmarva had just five hits, but made them count. Adam Hall singled, scored a run and drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Doran Turchin knocked in a run on a third-inning double and also walked. Ben Breazeale went hit less, but drove in the third and final run of the game with a ground out in the eighth inning. Jean Carlos Encarnacion scored a run and singled twice in four at-bats. Will Robertson doubled for the fifth time this year.
