Gabriel Ynoa will be making his third start of the year for the Orioles. In two starts, he’s given up two runs in four innings and four runs (two earned) in five. It will be interesting to see if he can build on his progress and pitch past the middle innings against a very good Astros team tonight.
Houston will send talented right-hander Gerrit Cole to the mound versus the O’s. Cole put up some amazing numbers in 2018, his first year pitching for anyone other than the Pirates. The 3.94 ERA in 2019 is a bit high for him, but his WHIP (1.04) and strikeouts (13.4 per nine innings) are still incredible.
Anthony Santander — called up to take the place of the injured Dwight Smith Jr. — will be thrust right into the fire, batting second and playing right field. Chance Sisco will be anchoring the cleanup spot and Chris Davis gets bumped all the way down to eighth. The only Oriole with any kind of real track record against Cole is Keon Broxton, who’s hitting .273 in 11 career at-bats with a home run.
