Well, what a surprising development this has been.
After some disappointing results against some of baseball’s most beatable teams, the Orioles have turned themselves into a tough opponent for one of the game’s best. Baltimore beat the Houston Astros Saturday, and were one run from doing the same Friday.
With that run, the Orioles would be going into today with a chance to sweep one of the most successful teams over the past few years, and one of the best this year. Even so, two out of three wouldn’t be bad, particularly considering the punishment fans were bracing themselves for coming into the series.
Leading the way in that endeavor is Dylan Bundy, who takes a 3-6 record and 4.64 ERA into the matchup. Bundy’s gone 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA since the start of May, and has allowed three runs in four of his last five starts. He’s only lasted beyond the sixth in one of those five starts, and is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in three career starts against the Astros.
His counterpart is familiar around here as well. Houston will give the ball to Wade Miley, who’s gone 5-3 with a 3.39 ERA this season. He’s coming off a start in which he allowed three runs in five innings to Seattle, but was excellent in his two starts before that. The lefthander was also a member of the Oriole rotation in 2017, going 8-15 with a 5.61 ERA.
