Starting pitcher No. 14, step right up.

That’ll be Asher Wojciechowski, who was acquired from Cleveland Monday and then called up to start for the Orioles tonight in Tampa Bay against the Rays. He’s the 14th pitcher to get the starting nod for the O’s this season.

It’s a return to the majors for the 30-year-old Wojciechowski, who hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since going 4-3 with a 6.50 ERA for Cincinnati in 2017. Before the trade he was with Cleveland’s AAA affiliate in Columbus, and went 8-2 with a 3.61 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 84.2 innings for the Clippers.

His counterpart today will be Charlie Morton, who’s 8-2 with a 2.43 ERA and has been a punchout artist, with 120 strikeouts in 100 innings. In his last start, Morton pitched 6.1 innings while allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned) and striking out seven.

For the eternal optimists, there’s this: In his last three starts, Morton has gone 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA, and Tampa Bay’s gone 0-3 in those contests. So there’s that.
