You’re tired. They’re tired. Everyone’s tired.
But Orioles baseball does not rest, people!
After playing for 16 innings, the Angels and Orioles will meet for the second game of their four-game set. A win will guarantee Baltimore, which won the marathon 10-8, at least a split with the Halos.
The ramifications of Thursday night’s and Friday morning’s affair are already being felt. The Angels had their would-be starter Griffin Canning pitch in relief last night, so they had to go with a Plan B for tonight. That is Nick Tropeano, who was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake, where he was 2-4 with a 7.66 ERA.
In two major league appearances this season, he was no record with an 8.31 ERA.
The Orioles, meanwhile, were able to stick with their planned starter, as Asher Wojciechowski will get the ball. He’s a modest 1-3 with a 3.91 ERA, but his last start was a gem as he allowed one hit in 7.1 scoreless innings of a 5-0 win over the Red Sox.
With a depleted bullpen, the O’s could certainly use another strong outing tonight. Here’s hoping the Birds decide to just play nine this time.
